Gary Byrd
Oil Painting
As an artist and collector, I look for a storyline or emotion in a painting. Of course, execution is important, but any painting also must have beauty and harmony. My style is a bit hybrid, being what I call “impressionistic realism.” This means I must properly represent the figures, composition and light correctly, however small details should read properly without being literal. I love the West and it is what I know. The history, people (modern and past) and animals are a bounty of material.
Gary Byrd graduated from Oklahoma State University with Bachelor’s degrees in Biological Science and Advertising and has been a professional artist since 1993. Gary has studied under several renowned artists including Greg Beecham, Dustin Van Wechel, John Seerey-Lester, Martin Grelle and Jim Wilcox.
Specialties are Western themes, wildlife and landscapes. He advertises frequently in Western Art Collector and has been noted in several features.
After a long and successful career in the Energy business, Gary and his wife made the decision to pursue his art on a full-time. They implemented a plan to accomplish that goal and in 2012, he began painting full time. He has produced a substantial portfolio of diversified works. They live in Sandia Park, New Mexico.
